Randy se dirigía a participar en una cacerolada como protesta por la muerte de Juan Wilfredo Soto García, cuando fue detenido por la Policía de Baracoa. Durante su detención fue amenazado con ser enviado a prisión y ser golpeado si continua con sus actividades disidentes.
